When was the first SAC ?

September 9th, 2008

This year we celebrate the 50th Scandinavian Activity Contest, it all started in 1959. But wait! It may have started earlier. In the ARRL magazine QST from May 1929 we found this “evidence” of that the SAC may have started allmost 80 years ago.

What do you think? This was perhaps what inspired the founders of the current SAC allmost 30 years later. In 1963 we find the first “stray” about SAC published in QST from September 1963.

Scandinavian Horizon

September 5th, 2008

Great Circle Map SM
How is the view from the Scandinavian horizon? Click on the Great Circle Map above to see how the radio horizon looks from Scandinavia. Interesting targets are of course North America and Far East, but in between we sometimes have lady Aurora Borealis! Currently when the sunspots are almost absent we hope that the Lady stays at home and not get out to dance in the ionosphere. And it looks promising the forecast is saying that we will have low K-index during both the CW and SSB leg of SAC.

Sverige i ledningen!

October 11th, 2007
